Early well visit and other photos

We went to see Dr. Fitch today for our 6 month check up due to a scheduling issue (6 month b-day is 5/6). It turns out that last time he was weighed (early March, 4 month check-up) they gave me his weight incorrectly. So Booker now weighs 16.4 pounds, which is almost what his reported weight was at 4 months. Anyhow, everything else looks great:
  • His umbillical hernia has healed on it's own so we won't be facing any future surgery.
  • He is above the 50% mark in all catagories.
  • He has hit all of his 6 month milestones, despite his preemie beginnings.
  • He's off preemie formula 3 months early!

Here's a photo from the doctor's scale. (Pay no attention to the scrape on his bum. I have to wait until he's alseep to clip his nails and he scratched himself during bathtime this morning before I could clip them.)

Here are 2 photos of my big boy playing. He is very interested in his toys these days. We sat like this for about an hour this afternoon while he grabbed different things and picked them up for inspection. Check out all of the dark hair that's coming in!

I purchased this cute baseball outfit at The Family Dollar, of all places. I'm so good about not going into baby clothing stores because of our tight budget and then I get snagged at the dollar store! Luckily, it was only $4.99. I bought it mostly because my Dad is such a huge baseball fan, I thought he'd get a kick out of it. I'm sure a tiny glove will be headed into Booker's little hands before too long!

Balancing Act

Booker can almost sit on this toy unassisted. He always has his arms out like this, even when being carried, trying to steady himself.

He can sit up pretty well on his own. He does really well in a high chair or shopping cart. The occasional face plant into the bed does not seem to bother him and always amuses me!

He can roll over but prefers to be sitting or standing. I swear he'll be walking before he's one!

too cute not to post

Our friend and babysitter, Mel, gave us this Baby Gap snappie when Booker was born. It has never quite fit him properly but makes cute sleepwear with his little blue sweats!
Booker has found his toes! It's getting more difficult to change his diaper because he folds himself in half every time you put him on his back.

I don't get much done on my days off. I hug and kiss him all day long. Can you blame me? Look at that face!

Happy Earth Day!

Booker and I attended a tree planting ceremony at a local elementary school today. I have had a pen pal there for several months through work and she has been asking me to bring the baby for a visit. It was a lovely (humid!) day in the San Antonio sun with a group of 4th graders who have a passion for Mother Earth!

Here are some of the Whole Foods Market team members with their pen pals in front of the new tree, Mrs. Oakey (partner to Mr. Oakey, planted last Earth Day).

Kristian finally meets Booker! She was the only one in her class who got to hold him. He was very fond of her, smiling every time she came near.

Here's the big guy with Miss Brooks (4th grade teacher extraordinaire). Kristian was standing to her right making him laugh.

Thanks Grandma!

We love our new highchair! It's fun to sit in while Momma cooks or folds laundry.

A Night in Old Alamo Heights

Viva Fiesta! This was the Cherry Family's first Fiesta experience, as last two Aprils we were moving (Balitmore to TX and then apartment to house). A Night in Old Alamo Heights is a street fair/carnival sponsored by the Rotary Club. We parked at the high school and were shuttled to the fairgrounds by school bus. All of the local restaurants had booths with food, there were bands, rides and lots of people. Ed and I enjoyed tacos, sausage-on-stick, Shiner Bock and funnel cake. Booker enjoyed the sights, music, dancing with Mom and Dad and flirting with the ladies at the bakery stand.

Food Show Fun

Ed, Booker and I attended the Sysco Food Show downtown today. Ed carried Booker around in our soft carrier for almost 2 hours! Booker flirted, napped and had a wonderful time. Ed and I ate fried food (more on that at SA).
Here's the before and after:

How cute are my guys in their golf shirts!

Sweet Potato Boy

I have continued to try cereal with Booker ever since our first go while Grandma was here. Although he's exhibiting all the signs of being interested in food (opening his mouth like a little bird, following my fork when I eat) he still spits out every bite of cereal. On the advice of a friend, I tried feeding him some jarred sweet potatoes tonight.

Success! It got all over him but he did swallow most of it. Grandma, we're ready for the high chair!

5 month old boy

A few things about my big boy...
  1. He flirts...especially with his babysitter, Sarah! He's such a ladies man.
  2. Teeth are approaching but not causing too much drama yet. There's just alot of drooling and hand sucking.
  3. He prefers to be standing all the time. I can actually put him standing up on the floor in front of me while sitting behind him and he'll stand there for up to 20 minutes! We're expecting him to get up and walk around any minute now.
  4. He's really a happy kid...right up until 5-6pm. Then there's a meltdown, refusal of food and general unhappiness for up to an hour. But the rest of the day of smiles and chattiness make up for it.

Other cute photos from our visit

I apologize for posting all of these at once and so late but I was having trouble with my format. It's fixed now so here are some other cute photos from this week.

Thanks to Reagan for the wonderful photos. He graciously came over and snapped lots of photos for us while my folks were in town. Ed's Dad, B.T., was also able to join us so we could get some photos with Both of Booker's namesakes!

Not yet but soon...

Well, we thought that Booker was ready for his fist bite of cereal but not quite yet. He's very interested in seeing other eat and always has his hands in his mouth so we know we're close. Grandma and Grandpa outfitted us with a fancy travel seat that clips to most any table and are ordering us a highchair for home as well. We were glad to have my Mom and Dad here for this first try!

Booker Meets Grandpa Andy

Booker met my Dad, Andy, for the first time this week. He and my Mom came in from Delaware for a much too short visit. We had a teriffic time catching up and hanging out with the main attraction, Mister Booker! It's always nice to see those that you love in the same room together.
